A Power of Attorney is a powerful document which allows someone to make financial and lifestyle decisions (i.e. an enduring power of attorney) or medical decisions (appointment of a medical treatment decision maker) when you are unable to do so.
Choosing your own power of attorney is preferable for most people, as you can choose someone you trust, rather than a stranger being appointed to manage your affairs, and your family does not need to apply to VCAT for someone to be appointed to manage your affairs.
You can choose to only appoint a medical decision maker, if that is what you prefer.
If you only need an Enduring Power of Attorney, the following link is what you need.
